The 2011 Commencal team launch took place on Wednesday morning at Llandegla Forest in North Wales, where the Atherton clan unveiled their new bike for the coming season.
Gee, Dan and Rachel Atherton took to the mic to introduce the Commencal Supreme V3 and talk about their plans and hopes for the year.
A great 2010 results-wise for the family was marred by a career and life threatening injury to the elder Atherton, Dan. It was July last year when he fell while training in north Wales and broke the C1 disc in his neck. He spent months in a halo brace and his riding future was in doubt. But he resumed training in late January and is looking forward to racing again. He told BikeRadar the weeks following the accident were a worrying time.
"It was touch and go for a while," he said. "It was my worst injury by a mile in my life and if it was any worse I probably wouldn't be here talking to you now. But every step of the way my medical support has been spot on and I couldn't have asked for a better recovery.
"It's amazing to have come back so quickly and be ready for racing. It was a nervous time when I first had the halo taken off; the way the bone had healed meant my movement was restricted at first. But it slowly got better, I've worked hard in training and I'm raring to go."
More news from the rest of the team and pictures of the new bike will follow shortly.
