USA Cycling's National Development Program honing skills worldwide

USA Cyclingand#39;s National Development Program competed in several of the most prestigious races in different disciplines. There was a group of women competing in the Tour of Chongming Island in China, four mountain bikers in the Saalhausen Bundesliga in Germany and junior roadies gaining exposure to what competitive European racing is all about at the Etappen der Rad in Frankfurt, Germany.

Higgins scores 6th in points race on opening day of Track Worlds

Cari Higgins recorded the strongest American performance of the opening day of competition at the UCI Track World Championships with a sixth-place result in the womenandrsquo;s points race. The prominent names of American pro cycling will be among the star-studded fields for the Memorial Day weekend USA Cycling Professional Road and Time Trial National Championships. 2010 USA Cycling Pro Road Race Champion Ben King and 2010 USA Cycling Pro Time Trial Champion Taylor Phinney will return to defend their titles. THIS MORNING, moments before the start of the fourth stage of the Tour of California, Chris Horner told Bicycling that since there were so few opportunities for the overall contenders in this year’s race to put time into one another, there would be a lot on the line today.

After winning the cross-country race at the 2011 Sea Otter Classic in Monterey, Calif., Emily Batty leads the USA Cycling 2011 Pro Mountain Bike Cross-Country Tour Standings. Despite finishing second in the cross-country race at the Sea Otter Classic, Canadian rider Max Plaxton holds a narrow 10-point lead over Jeremiah Bishop in the menand#39;s standings while Specialized Racing USA has a 10-point lead over Subaru-Trek in the team standings.

USA Cycling has announced a revision to qualification for its USA Cycling Elite Track National Championships. USA Cycling will be discontinuing the Velodrome Championships which have previously been used as qualifying races for the USA Cycling Elite Track National Championships.

Corben Sharrah wins Supercross World Cup opener on Saturday

Corben Sharrah picked up his first Supercross World Cup win on Saturday at the series opener in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa. After qualifying fifth in the time trial Super Final, the 18-year-old Sharrah worked his way through the early rounds and won his semi-final before moving into the main where he powered his way to the top step of the podium.

Compton rides to silver on sunny day at Cyclo-cross Worlds

American Katie Compton rode to the silver medal in the elite womenandrsquo;s competition at the UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships on Sunday, closing out a season that also saw her win five World Cups and a seventh straight national title. In the elite menandrsquo;s contest, Jonathan Page was the top American rider in 12th place.

Mishaps hold U.S. youngsters out of medals at CX Worlds

Danny Summerhill finished 13th in the U23 menandrsquo;s contest to led the U.S. team on day one of the UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships in St. Wendel, Germany on Saturday. Sixteen-year-old Andrew Dillman led the American juniors with a 21st place finish. Both riders suffered mid-race mishaps causing them to fall from lead groups on the fast, but slick course.

Hammer second in USOC March Athlete of the Month contest

After becoming the first American woman to ever earn three medals in a single cycling world championships, Sarah Hammer finished second in the U.S. Olympic Committeeandrsquo;s (USOC) Female March Athlete of the Month competition. Hammer won the gold medal in the Womenandrsquo;s Individual Pursuit at the UCI Track World Championships in Apeldoorn, Netherlands, on Friday, March 25, contributed to a silver medal in the team pursuit (with Dotsie Bausch and Jennie Reed) on Sunday, March 27 and also earned a silver medal in the omnium later that day.

L.A. to host 2012 UCI Para-cycling Track World Championships

The U.S. Olympic Committee (USOC) announced today at a press event at L.A. LIVE that the 2012 UCI Para-cycling Track World Championships will be held at The Home Depot Center Velodrome, an AEG-owned and operated facility, in Carson, Calif., Feb. 10-12. The competition will welcome approximately 230 athletes from 30 countries and serve as the final qualifying event for U.S. athletes to be nominated to the 2012 U.S. Paralympic Cycling Team which will compete at the 2012 Paralympic Games in London.

Liberty Classic draws world's top women's teams to Philly

Chula Vista to host USA Cycling's BMX National Championships

USA Cycling will coronate its first national champions of 2011 on Saturday, April 16, at the USA Cycling BMX National Championships at the United States Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif. For the first time in American BMX history, the event will be held on an Olympic-style supercross track. Amateur races will also be contested at the nearby smaller, traditional BMX track at the same venue.

Higgins scores 6th in points race on opening day of Track Worlds

Cari Higgins recorded the strongest American performance of the opening day of competition at the UCI Track World Championships with a sixth-place result in the womenandrsquo;s points race. The U.S. team sprint trio finished 12th and Bobby Lea posted an 11th-place result in the menandrsquo;s scratch race.

Ride Sun Valley Bike Festival to feature the MTB XC Nationals

The Sun Valley Chamber and Visitors Bureau today announced the Ride Sun Valley Bike Festival presented by Scott Sports, featuring the 2011 USA Cycling Mountain Bike Cross-Country National Championships. The weeklong event featuring numerous mountain bike activities will include the three race disciplines of Olympic Cross-Country, Short Track Cross Country and Super D events. Zions Bank will sponsor the Olympic Cross-Country event; Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad will sponsor the Short Track Cross-Country race and the Super D event sponsored by the Sun Valley Chamber. Other event sponsors include Idaho Tourism, Breakaway Promotions, Sun Valley Events and Metric Marketing Group.

Hammer scores omnium silver to wrap up record-setting track worlds

Sarah Hammer moved from fourth to second place in the womenandrsquo;s omnium to earn the silver on the final day of competition at the UCI Track World Championships. With Sundayandrsquo;s finish combined with gold in the individual pursuit and silver in the team pursuit, Hammer became the first American woman ever to earn three medals in a single cycling world championship.

Elite women, U23 and junior men's squads named for 'Cross Worlds

USA Cycling is pleased to announce the first round of nominations to the United States National Team for the 2011 UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships, slated for January 29-30 in St. Wendel, Germany. Twelve athletes have been named to the elite womenandrsquo;s, U23 menandrsquo;s, and junior menandrsquo;s squads based on their performances over the last cyclo-cross season.

USA Cycling's National Development Program honing skills worldwide

USA Cyclingand#39;s National Development Program competed in several of the most prestigious races in different disciplines. There was a group of women competing in the Tour of Chongming Island in China, four mountain bikers in the Saalhausen Bundesliga in Germany and junior roadies gaining exposure to what competitive European racing is all about at the Etappen der Rad in Frankfurt, Germany.

Windham Mountain to again host UCI Mountain Bike World Cup

For the second year in a row, the worldandrsquo;s best professional mountain bikers will converge on Windham Mountain as the resort town hosts the seventh in a series of 10 World Cup events held all over the globe. The 2011 edition of the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup presented by Shimano will get under way in less than a week with the first round in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa. The Windham event will take place from July 7 through July 10.

Liberty Classic draws world's top women's teams to Philly

The worldandrsquo;s premier womenandrsquo;s cycling teams will descend upon Philadelphia on June 5th to contest the 18th annual Liberty Classic, the longest-running, most prestigious race in the country. The big news this year is that in addition to the all-star cast of domestic teams, five of the top internationally-ranked (UCI) teams have confirmed they will be lining up to tackle the infamous Manayunk Wall and more.

Mishaps hold U.S. youngsters out of medals at CX Worlds

Danny Summerhill finished 13th in the U23 menandrsquo;s contest to led the U.S. team on day one of the UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships in St. Wendel, Germany on Saturday. Sixteen-year-old Andrew Dillman led the American juniors with a 21st place finish. Both riders suffered mid-race mishaps causing them to fall from lead groups on the fast, but slick course.

Blockbuster field registered for GHS USA Cycling Pro Championships

The prominent names of American pro cycling will be among the star-studded fields for the Memorial Day weekend USA Cycling Professional Road and Time Trial National Championships. 2010 USA Cycling Pro Road Race Champion Ben King and 2010 USA Cycling Pro Time Trial Champion Taylor Phinney will return to defend their titles. Among the challengers will be four-time USA Cycling Time Trial national champion Dave Zabriskie, three-time USA Cycling Pro Road Race national champion George Hincapie, 2007 U.S. Pro Road Race national champion and 2010 runner-up Levi Leipheimer.

After becoming the first American woman to ever earn three medals in a single cycling world championships, Sarah Hammer finished second in the U.S. Olympic Committeeandrsquo;s (USOC) Female March Athlete of the Month competition. Hammer won the gold medal in the Womenandrsquo;s Individual Pursuit at the UCI Track World Championships in Apeldoorn, Netherlands, on Friday, March 25, contributed to a silver medal in the team pursuit (with Dotsie Bausch and Jennie Reed) on Sunday, March 27 and also earned a silver medal in the omnium later that day.

Women's team pursuit earns silver at Track World Championships

The womenandrsquo;s team pursuit squad brought home the first medal of the 2011 UCI Track World Championships for the United States. After turning out the second best time in the morningandrsquo;s qualifier, the trio was defeated by Great Britain in the eveningandrsquo;s gold-medal match-up. Giddeon Massie just missed qualifying for the menandrsquo;s sprint tournament, finishing 27th out of 50 in the flying 200 meter.
